The Longmont Department of Public Safety is looking for an experienced Colorado-certified law enforcement professional to join our Detective Division in a temporary, part-time support role.

This position provides an opportunity to put your investigative experience to work supporting active criminal investigations, intelligence gathering, case management, evidence and property functions, real-time information operations, and other specialized Detective Division activities.

This is a civilian, non-enforcement position working under the direction of the Detective Sergeant and/or Assistant Chief overseeing the Detective Division.

What You’ll Do:

Investigations & Case Support:

Assist with criminal investigations involving crimes against persons, property, and society, including exposure to unpleasant or appalling subject matter.
Follow up with citizens, victims, and suspects at the direction of the lead Detective, Sergeant, and/or Assistant Chief.
Pursue investigative leads, develop new leads, gather information, and prepare thorough investigative documentation.
Assist with Sex Offender registration and Missing Person/Human Trafficking investigations.
Review recorded interviews and memorialize their content in written reports.
Complete intelligence workups on suspects, including criminal history, residences, vehicles, and related information.
Review jail phone calls and text messages as part of investigations.
Assist with Property & Evidence management and/or background investigations as assigned.

Technology & Real-Time Support:

Use modern public safety technology to support investigations and field operations, including:

License plate recognition systems.
Video management and surveillance tools.
Real-Time Information Center (RTIC) operations.
Live intelligence monitoring during critical incidents.
Drone as First Responder (DFR) operations, including flight monitoring and post-flight reporting.

Legal & Court Responsibilities:

Participate in legal proceedings as required.
Appear in court to present evidence and testify when necessary.

General Responsibilities:

Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive investigative information and materials.
Transport or retrieve case-related items from locations throughout or around Longmont in a civilian, non-enforcement capacity.
Follow Longmont Department of Public Safety policies and procedures.
Perform duties in a manner consistent with the City's organizational attributes.
Perform other duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For:

Minimum Qualifications:

At least 5 years of prior experience as a certified law enforcement officer, preferably with the City of Longmont.
Knowledge of Colorado criminal law and its application to criminal investigations.
Knowledge of criminal investigation techniques and investigative documentation standards.
Knowledge of Longmont Department of Public Safety policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the Colorado Revised Statutes and Municipal Criminal Code.

Additional Requirements:

Valid Colorado Driver License, or ability to obtain one upon hire.
Unescorted Security Clearance required.
Spanish/English bilingual skills are preferred.

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in a standard office environment, including open work areas that can be noisy and fast-paced at times.

The position requires the ability to:

Sit or stand for extended periods.
Lift light-weight items such as document boxes, large notebooks, and small evidentiary items.
Shift focus between multiple tasks and priorities.
Work effectively in an environment where investigative needs can change quickly.
