About the Position:

The City of Longmont is seeking Temporary Watershed Rangers to help protect natural resources, support public safety, and provide community outreach and education at Button Rock Preserve, McCall Lake, water facilities, parks, greenways, open space, and other public lands.

This is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about conservation, recreation management, emergency response, and outdoor public service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patrol parks, open space, reservoirs, and public lands to ensure visitor safety and resource protection.
  • Educate visitors on rules and regulations and enforce municipal codes when necessary.
  • Investigate violations and issue municipal summonses as required.
  • Assist with reservoir facility management and environmental monitoring.
  • Operate equipment used in parks, forestry, and utility maintenance.
  • Perform semi-skilled maintenance work including carpentry, landscaping, painting, and plumbing tasks.
  • Provide excellent customer service and visitor assistance.
  • Conduct patrols by hiking, biking, boating, UTV, or vehicle.
  • Respond to emergencies, provide first aid, and assist with boating rescues.
  • Help resolve visitor conflicts and safety concerns.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree in:
    • Natural Resource Management
    • Natural Sciences
    • Park & Recreation Management
    • Criminal Justice
OR

  • Two years of directly related experience in:
    • Natural resource management
    • Outdoor recreation
    • Wildlife or fisheries
    • Regulation enforcement
    • Emergency medical response
    • Boat operations

Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Required Certifications/Licenses:
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
  • First Aid/AED/CPR certification (within 6 months of hire).
  • OC Aerosol Spray certification (within 6 months of hire).
  • Collapsible Baton certification (within 6 months of hire).
  • Motor Boat Operation certification (within 6 months of hire).

Preferred Certifications:
  • Wildland Fire Certifications (S-130/S-190).
  • Basic Chainsaw Certification (S-212).
  • Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder.

Bilingual English/Spanish candidates are encouraged to apply.

Working Conditions:

This position involves working outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions and requires extensive walking, standing, and physical activity. Employees may be exposed to dust, pollen, chemicals, noise, and environmental hazards.
